Fortnite's Latest Update Causes Storage Woes for Xbox Players

Fortnite's newest update poses a problem for Xbox players, requiring much more storage space to download than other platforms. The issue arises as Epic Games releases the game's latest V30.30 patch, which comes toward the end of Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked, a season that has introduced a variety of new items and gameplay changes to Fortnite. Fortnite's Chapter 5 Season 3 update has transformed the battle royale game in numerous ways, with large portions of the map being converted into harsh wastelands. As a result, vehicles have become incredibly important for survival this season. Players can find and collect a variety of vehicle upgrades ranging from machine gun turrets to bullet-proof tires.

A ton of new cosmetic items were also added to Fortnite, with the iconic Power Armor from the Fallout series making its way into the game as a playable skin, as well as the legendary X-Men character Magneto. However, Xbox players are encountering issues with Fortnite's latest patch, making it difficult to download due to its size. According to multiple online reports from players, Fortnite's new V30.30 patch is much larger than expected. Twitter user Noahmattingly1 shared an image of them attempting to download the patch on their Xbox console, revealing the patch comes in at a whopping 68 GB. While Fortnite's seasonal updates can be large in both size and ambition, it's rare for a patch to be as big as this one is.

Players will need around 27 GB for the initial installation of Fortnite, though this increases with new updates, cosmetics, and other additions. In response to complaints and concerns from Xbox users, Epic Games is addressing the issue head-on. According to the official Fortnite Status Twitter account, Fortnite's latest game patch was not intended to be this large for Xbox users, though players may just have to wait it out or make space on their devices themselves. The team says it understands the patch size is inconvenient and is investigating the issue, encouraging Xbox players to start the installation process ahead of time. Fortnite's Wrecked season officially ends on August 16, 2024, giving players a few more weeks to wrap up any uncollected rewards and challenges. Players have had quite a time using new items like Magneto Power and the Nitro Fists, though excitement is steadily building for Fortnite's next season. Included in Fortnite's latest update is Elon Musk's infamous Cybertruck, allowing players to traverse the map in one of the world's most unique-looking vehicles. The car is unlocked by completing Fortnite's new Summer Road Trip quest, which is free for all players.
